When Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan attended Donald Trump’s second inauguration in January, it wasn’t entirely surprising. They joined a host of other tech titans, who had historically leaned left, at the swearing in of a president who will hold enormous power over their business’ potential to be regulated over the next four years. Still, as Evgenia Peretz reports today, the association, and Zuckerberg’s shifting sensibility, has led to some pretty confounding times for employees of the couple’s philanthropic organization, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. The charity has long been driven by some decidedly un-Trumpy ideals: science, research, and empathy. Peretz’s story presents a foundation navigating a cultural sea change in real time.
Elsewhere today, Michelle Williams describes the therapeutic nature of her role in Dying For Sex, and Patti Smith reveals the cover of her new memoir. More tomorrow…
