- What happened? The airport lost power because of a fire at an electrical substation and will be closed until at least tomorrow. More than 1,300 flights will be directly affected.
- The wider impact: The closure at one of the world’s busiest airports is expected to cause disruption around the globe. Airlines are scrambling to divert passengers.

- How we know: In 2024, the Census Bureau asked more than half a million people how often they felt lonely. Mississippi, Louisiana and Georgia led the pack — dig into the data here.
- Why? Extreme loneliness tends to be higher in states with higher poverty rates. Being lonely can pose threats to your health, although choosing to be alone can help to lift your mood.

- In January: An iceberg about 19 miles long cracked off the ice sheet, revealing a patch of ocean that hadn’t seen daylight in decades. Researchers decided to search the seafloor.
