ONE DAY OF SPIRITUAL DISCOVERY LIKE THIS

The Jerusalem of the Aegean. What will it be like? You’ve rarely seen Patmos on cruise itineraries. So, what should you expect? As the ship pulls into Skala’s port, something stirs within you.

As you make your way past the boutique-lined streets, the chirping of cicadas intensifies. A rolling landscape opens before you. Scents of wild herbs fill your head, and your eyes dot from sun-baked hills to navy bays. This island is divine.

You stop by a small door. Behind that door is the room – the very room. As soon as you walk inside, a calmness pervades.

It is here where St John is said to have heard Jesus telling him about the Apocalypse. You leave in total awe, stories spinning in your head.

But as you climb the hills, something else captures your attention.

Within the mighty walls, you see El Greco. The expressive masterpiece brings you eye-to-eye with stories of holy wonders.

Coming into view are quaint windmills keeping guard. Then something majestic and powerful. A fortress? Isn’t it a monastery?

Later you find a precious table for two. A view of ships anchored in the bar, framed by trailing vines. You’ll never forget that meal. That sizzling seafood – and the zing of thyme honey!
