As Ozark’s Marty Byrde once said, “People make choices. Choices have consequences.” And on Friday, five years and four seasons after settling into Missouri to launder money for a drug cartel, his story came to a dramatic end in Ozark’s last episode. Julie Miller spoke with Jason Bateman, Julia Garner, Laura Linney, and showrunner Chris Mundy about the show’s grand finale, which came complete with a few unexpected left turns. “It felt too clean to have everybody get a damaged but happy ending,” said Mundy. “It felt like a fairy-tale ending to something that we were trying to make not a fairy tale.”
