Jenny Lumet Ponders the Future of Wokeness

From ’90s-era debates over “political correctness” to the more recent uproar about “cancel culture,” it can seem sometimes like we’ve been fighting the same culture war for decades—in life, in politics, and even in the entertainment we consume. TV writer and creator Jenny Lumet considers this fraughtlandscape in an essay from V.F.’s Hollywood Issue: “For many, the miasma of fear that was 2020 is lifting. There are vaccines. Those people no longer live in the White House. Many, myself included, feel less vulnerable. It’s going to get better,” she writes. “And a lot of people will be happy not to talk about this shit anymore.”

Elsewhere in HWD, Richard Lawson reviews once and future Spider-Man Tom Holland’s gritty new drama, Cherry; Cassie da Costa highlights the best of what’s coming to Netflix in March; and Benedict Nguyen surveys the new docuseriesTrans in Trumpland.
