Ryan Murphy’s retelling of Bill Clinton’s impeachment scandal is part of his American Crime Story anthology, but, considering the nightmares it gave the country in general and Monica Lewinsky in particular, it wouldn’t have been a bad fit for American Horror Story either. Today V.F.’s Julie Miller talks to Beanie Feldstein about the toxic friendship between Lewinsky and Linda Tripp (played by an inspired Sarah Paulson) that drives the series. “Obviously, I think Linda’s betrayal is one of the most singular, epic female-friendship betrayals of all time. There’s kind of nothing like it. But at the same time, Sarah Paulson’s performance and [executive producer] Sarah Burgess’s writing help you understand how she got there and what she thought she was doing.”

Elsewhere in HWD, we walk you through the whole Impeachment cast; Maggie Coughlan counts down the must-see looks from the 2021 Venice Film Festival; we give you an exclusive look at a telling scene from the upcoming movie Dune; and Richard Lawson reviews Jane Campion’s intense new drama, The Power of the Dog.
