In Brief:
▪    CIRCOM Regional Executive Committee meeting
▪    Training: focus on climate change
Executive Committee online meeting
The regular meeting of the CIRCOM Regional Executive Committee was held online on 24 September. The timely preparations for the usual landmark activities of the CIRCOM family – the next Prix CIRCOM 2022 cycle and the Annual Conference scheduled for the spring next year are about to start. We hope for an optimistic perspective of 2022. The EC members discussed various aspects of Prix CIRCOM 2022 cycle and exchanged ideas for the Annual Conference of CIRCOM Regional which will be held on 26 and 27 May 2022 in Galway, Ireland. Also the EC talked about new opportunities for production cooperation among our members and reviewed the ongoing training programme
Training: Focusing on climate change
Ahead of the forthcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow CIRCOM held a special training on this issue which touches upon every one of us. “Finding and Telling Climate change stories – A fresh Approach” webinar was on 23 September led by the CR trainer Mia Costello.

The 21 participants from 8 countries looked at the climate change through the prism of solution-based journalism. Sophie Roland, an independent filmmaker, and Charlotte Horn, NDR Radio reporter, introduced the attendees to the principles and the method of SoJo and showed how to apply itin covering the climate change. How to make the audience understand the consequences of warmer climate, how to downscale a global problem to local implications, explain the true meaning of the NET ZERO target, using the right clear language and striking the balance between not scaring people and empowering them – to name a few of them.

The conversation focused on key areas – reduction ofgreenhouse emissionsadapting ecosystems and educate people about the problem. And yes – it was there: a suggestion was made to share ideas within the CIRCOM community and look out how regions can match up among themselves in their approach to climate change
