Osgood Perkins’s buzzy serial killer movie Longlegs has atmosphere, scares, and Nicolas Cage going full Nicolas Cage. But though the film gathers inspiration from beloved scare-fests like The Silence of the Lambs, Se7en, and Hereditary, Richard Lawson thinks it falls far short of those influences. “Longlegs is stylish but vacuous, a prettily foreboding picture with nothing behind it,” he writes. “As Hannibal Lecter might say, it’s a well scrubbed, hustling rube with a little taste.”
