Family Vacation

If you’re impatiently waiting for the new batch of Pen15episodes to show up on Hulu, here comes some solace: an animated special, called “Jacuzzi,” that follows our beloved heroines, Anna and Maya, as they go on a low-rent Florida vacation with their families and struggle valiantly not to be miserable. Today V.F.’s David Canfield has an exclusive first look at the special and talks to writer, creator, and star Anna Konkle. “Jacuzzi” was originally intended to be live-action, but when COVID upended that plan, Konkle and her cocreator, Maya Erskine, pivoted giddily toward animation and, as always, wrung all the pathos they could from their own childhood misadventures. As Konkle puts it, “For me, it was staying at these economical—whatever my parents would call them—hotels and waiting for the fun to start and being like…it’s never going to start.”

Elsewhere in HWD, Jordan Hoffman weighs in on M. Night Shyamalan’s latest nightmare scenarioOld; Joanna Robinson talks to Sophia Di Martino about her great turn in the Loki finale; Kate Winslet gushes about SNL’s Mare of Easttown parody; and V.F. walks you through what’s new on Netflix next month.
