It’s tough to find a soul music legend greater than Rev. Al Green. His recognizable voice over a string of Memphis soul gems in the 70s and just as many Gospel hits in the subsequent years made him an all-timer.
It as been 15 years since Green's last album, but he has just released a brand new single on Fat Possum Records. The cover of Lou Reed’s 1972 song “Perfect Day” is tailor made for Green, with a churchy organ intro and restrained Memphis production of Matthew Johnson that lets’ that one-of-a-kind voice sit out front, where we can just admire it.
