The Whole Truth About Dakota Johnson
Last year, with her raw, surprising turn in The Lost Daughter,Dakota Johnson upended a lot of people’s notions of her as an actor. Today, in V.F.’s new cover story, she upends a few more. Our writer Britt Hennemuth met with the star, producer, and fashion muse for weeks on both coasts, and draws a portrait of a smart, bawdy free spirit who’s ready to tell some surprising truths about her childhood and even the famous-infamous trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey: “We’d do the takes of the movie that [E.L. James] wanted to make, and then we would do the takes of the movie that we wanted to make. The night before, I would rewrite scenes with the old dialogue so I could add a line here and there. It was like mayhem all the time.”
Elsewhere in Hollywood, CAA holds its annual Amplify conference, and dives into tough questions about race; Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly talks about playing the cutthroat (and beloved) character Beth Dutton; Only Murders in the Building throws a premiere party for season two; and Rose Byrne gets Physical in an interview with our Little Gold Menpodcast.
