1968Jose Feliciano's unique rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner," which he performed on acoustic guitar before Game 5 of the World Series on October 7, enters the Hot 100 at #89, making it the first version of the US National Anthem to chart (it peaks at #50). Many singers start adding their own flavor to the song; the next version to chart is Whitney Houston's Super Bowl performance in 1991, which hits #20.

Rami Malek Stars In Bohemian Rhapsody
2018The Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, opens in theaters. It wins four Oscars, including Best Actor for Malek.
The film, named after the band's 1975 hit, follows the life of Queen's lead singer, Freddie Mercury. Sacha Baron Cohen was originally cast in the lead role until the remaining band members voiced their concerns about his comedic roles - such as Ali G and Borat - being a possible threat to the seriousness of the film. Queen guitarist Brian May told Classic Rock Magazine: "We thought there has to be no distraction in the Freddie movie. You have to really suspend that disbelief - the man who plays Freddie, you have to really believe is Freddie. And we didn't that could really happen with Sacha." After Baron Cohen left the project over creative differences, producers Denis O'Sullivan and Graham King found their man in Rami Malek, star of the sci-fi series Mr. Robot, who had the right physical characteristics and acting chops to portray the late singer. But it took a mix of three voices to get the right vocals: Malek's, Mercury's (using master recordings), and Canadian singer Marc Martel's. Malek's performance, which involved extensive work with a movement coach to transform into Mercury, earns him the Oscar for Best Actor. The soundtrack peaks at #2 in the US, becoming Queen's second-highest charting album since The Game hit #1 in 1980.
