|
On Aug. 21, 1831, Nat Turner’s slave rebellion starts in Southampton, Virginia. Turner and around 75 fellow rebel slaves killed around 60 people, most of them white, during the two-day event. After the rebellion was put down, there were retaliatory killings of tens of slaves suspected of involvement. Turner managed to avoid capture until the end of October. He confessed his involvement without remorse and was executed on Nov. 11. |
