Late Night Is Roaring Back
Life, uh, finds a way. That’s the message being delivered by the talk shows hosted by Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, Trevor Noah, and James Corden, all of which have managed to continue airing in some form despite coronavirus-induced disruption. Corden in particular is coming back to the airwaves with an ambitious project: a primetime Late Late Show special airing Monday, and featuring an array of major recording artists, including Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, South Korean band BTS, John Legend, and opera legend Andrea Bocelli, all performing from their own homes for Corden and viewers at home. “The biggest message you want to send to people right now is: We’re all in this together,” Corden told Christopher Rosen in a phone interview on Saturday. “We started thinking, Well, what’s the way that we could bring people together while keeping them apart?”
Elsewhere in HWD, Joanna Robinson gets to the bottom of a heartbreaking episode of Outlander;Yohana Destalearns about the wild storylines not covered in Netflix’s Octavia Spencer–starring series Self Made;Julie Millercatches up with Ozark star Julia Garner; and a nation rejoices, because Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are finally home.
