European unity in support of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal may be cracking as allies come under growing pressure from the United States to abandon the agreement after Tehran’s downing of a passenger jet January 8.

On January 17, 1961, in his farewell address to the nation, President Dwight D. Eisenhower warns Americans to keep an eye on the burgeoning ‘military-industrial complex.’ The former general, who led the country to victory in Europe during World War II, expressed concerns about the growing size and cost of the American defense establishment.
