On September 6, 1901, President William McKinley was fatally shot. McKinley was visiting the Pan-American exhibit in Buffalo, New York, and was shaking hands with fellow visitors when a man fired two shots into McKinley’s chest. McKinley lived for eight days, but eventually succumbed to his injuries on September 14. Vice President Theodore Roosevelt was immediately sworn in as president. |
