ON THIS DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY | |
|
On September 26, 1960, John F. Kennedy, then a senator from Massachusetts, and then Vice President Richard M. Nixon participate in the first televised presidential debate in Chicago. Kennedy appeared to have the better performance as he appeared more comfortable on camera. Nixon also declined to wear makeup, making him appear to sweat. Nixon performed better in subsequent debates, but went on to lose the election to Kennedy. Nixon was elected president eight years later. |
