The Fourth of July commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, when the 13 US colonies severed ties with Britain on July 4, 1776. It’s been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, which means almost everyone has the day off. Here’s how Americans celebrate Independence Day.
Independence Day is the most patriotic American holiday. A new survey suggests different states have different levels of patriotism. Now patriotism means different things to different people, but the survey decided to define the most patriotic state using specific metrics like the number of residents in the military, or who are veterans, volunteerism and civic engagement, including voting rates. So which is the most patriotic state of them all?
