Trip Report: To the Faroe Islands with Atlantic Airways
The Faroe Islands is a self-governing archipelago, part of the Kingdom of Denmark. It comprises 18 rocky, volcanic islands between Iceland and Norway in the North Atlantic Ocean.
Atlantic Airways is 100%-owned by the Faroese government. The carrier is integral to the nation’s economy, transporting around 330,000 passengers to and from the remote islands annually. The small carrier operates in a very challenging environment, with constantly changing weather conditions. However, Atlantic Airways meet all standards that a modern airline should offer.
Here are some pictures from my recent flight on Atlantic Airways from Copenhagen to Vagar, Faroe Islands.
FAA Approves Boeing’s Proposal to Resume 787 Deliveries
On 29th July, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved Boeing’s plans to inspect and modify the manufacturing flaws in the Boeing 787 Dreamliners. This will pave the way for the manufacturer to resume deliveries of its Dreamliners. Even though the FAA’s approval for inspection and modification of the 787s is a milestone for Boeing, it […]

Delta Airbus A321 Aborted Take off Due to Engine Fire
A Delta Air Lines Airbus A321 was forced to reject takeoff at high speed after it sustained a bird strike, causing an engine fire at Denver Airport. The incident occurred on 26th July. The Airbus A321-200, with registration N332DN, was accelerating for takeoff as flight DL1057 from Denver’s runway 08 bound to Atlanta, with 197 […]

CEO Talks: Air Serbia CEO Jiri Marek on Long Haul Expansion
Air Serbia is adding a second Airbus A330-200 in October to its fleet as it plans to launch new services to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) as well as to China. I had a great chat with Air Serbia CEO Jiri Marek at the company’s head office in Belgrade, where he explains the possibilities and challenges. “Taking […]

History Special: Britannia Airways – The Blue Chip Leisure Carrier
Warm spring weather in England has made me nostalgic for the classic years of the package tour to the sun. One airline stood out in the crowd as shorthand for quality, and that was Britannia Airways. Britannia Airways was formed in 1961 as Euravia, to provide the airline component of package tours sold by Universal […]

Video: Inside LAX with Airport Operation + New Control Tower Visit
I spent a day behind the operation scenes at one of my favorite airport; LAX - Los Angeles International.
I follow Jon, an airport operation superintendent on runway inspection, we drove on the longest runway at LAX among busy airfield traffic. Jon showed me what airport operations do to maintain airfield safety. We picked up some FOD (foreign objects and debris), escort a Korean Air B747-8 (Group 6 aircraft), did ground inspection, and visited several airfield construction sites.
Then, I visited the new LAX Traffic Ramp tower at Bradley Terminal West. The new tower was opened last year and operated by LA Airport Operation. The ramp tower controls 2 taxiways to the East and 2 taxiways to the West of the new Bradley West terminal due to reduced visibility from the ATC tower. Enjoy some great traffic and plane spotting from the new tower location. The International traffic is bouncing back. I spotted some new airlines such as ITA Airways A350, Zip Air B787, Korean Air B747-8, SAS A350 and many others.
Finally, I visited LAX Airport Response Coordination Center (ARCC) where all the departments such as Airport Ops, Fire department, and law enforcement came together to coordinate response to emergencies at LAX.
