The Best Movies and TV Shows of the Decade
It was the decade that included both Moonlight and Mad Max: Fury Road, both the waning years of Mad Men and Breaking Bad and the beginnings of Atlanta and BoJack Horseman. The 2010s may be best remembered as the era of Peak Content, a time when there were just as many great movies as ever and way more great TV shows, to the point that even the professionals struggled to keep up. And yet, our three critics managed it anyway. Today Richard Lawson and K. Austin Collins shared their lists of the best films of the decade, from tiny foreign films to best-picture winners to giant action spectacles. And Sonia Saraiya shared her best tv shows of the decade, plus a slew of honorable mentions, making room for everything from Steven Universe to 30 Rock’s “Queen of Jordan” episode. As the decade comes to a close, there’s a lot of catching up and revisiting to do. Dig in.
Elsewhere in HWD, Anthony Breznican gets the scoop on how The Mandalorian’s Baby Yoda conquered the world, including winning a very ardent fan in Werner Herzog;Chris Heath talks to Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story star Scarlett Johansson about her two major awards-season contenders, and some of the controversies she’s encountered in the last year; and Yohana Desta reveals an exclusive look behind the scenes of the Downton Abbey movie.
And one last note: We’ll be taking a Thanksgiving break beginning tomorrow. Go see Knives Out or Queen & Slimor A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, go catch up with our critics’ favorites from the decade, and we’ll see you next Monday.
