Forbes announces that Nirvana's Kurt Cobain is now the top-earning dead celebrity, beating out Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Johnny Cash, George Harrison, Ray Charles, and Bob Marley.
Twelve years after his death Cobain tops the list after his widow, Courtney Love, sells a portion of her share of Nirvana's publishing rights. The sale, reported to have been worth more than $50 million, makes Cobain the top-earning dead celebrity for a year. In 2007, he is knocked off the list, with Elvis once again taking the top spot.
