The Spice Girls Say They'll Be There

2007
The Spice Girls announce that they're getting back together, with the five original Spices reuniting.
With all five of the original members present, the Girls hold a press conference in London to announce they will reunite for a one-off tour. Initially consisting of 11 dates across six continents, the North American and European sections are later expanded to 47 dates, and the other shows across the world are cancelled. The tour makes over $70 million, but does not lead to a permanent reunion.

The Spice Girls are one of the biggest "girl bands" in the UK, comprised of five sassy Brits, each with their own style and personality. After their debut single, "Wannabe," from their first album topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic - spearheading the pop-music assault of the "Second British Invasion" - they became huge worldwide stars and remain media darlings despite having not released any new music in eight years. As well as their three studio albums - Spice (1996), Spiceworld (1997), and Forever (2000) - they also starred in a feature film, Spice World, in 1997, which featured cameos from a host of stars including Meat Loafand Elton John.

Although the group never officially split, Geri Halliwell left the band in 1998, and the remaining four members have been on an indefinite hiatus since 2000. The band members have all launched solo careers with varying success. Melanie Brown ("Mel B") topped the British Charts with "I Want You Back" (a duet with Missy Elliott), and Melanie Chisholm ("Mel C") also launched her post-Spice Girls career with a duet, appearing on Bryan Adams' "When You're Gone." Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton have also had #1 hit singles since leaving the band, but Victoria Beckham has focused on her career as a fashion designer, and as such is the only one of the five who does not perform a solo song in the reunion shows - instead appearing on a catwalk in a mock fashion show.
