Hollywood is currently in the midst of its annual long winter’s nap, but the engine of awards season is merely idling—as soon as the calendar turns to 2024, we are back in business big time. January 3 brings the New York Film Critics Circle dinner, where winners like Lily Gladstone, Charles Melton, and Christopher Nolan will be giving what they probably hope are the first of many acceptance speeches. The next day, over in California, the Palm Springs International Film Festival kicks off, bringing honors for Emma Stone, Billie Eilish, and other contenders.
January 7 brings the Golden Globes Awards, now airing on CBS; a busy week of nontelevised events like the Academy’s Governors Awards and the AFI Luncheon will follow, before the awards show double header of the Critics Choice Awards (January 14) and strike-delayed Emmys (January 15). Yes, that’s three televised awards shows in just the first two weeks of the year—and with the Oscars still nearly two months away.
Don’t panic just yet—there’s still a few more days before things get back in gear. in the meantime, catch up on our coverage of the nominees for all these major awards shows, and even look ahead toward the Sundance Film Festival, yet another January event that’s probably way closer than you realize. Happy New Year!
