Can Vampires Save AMC?
AMC, erstwhile home of Mad Men and Breaking Bad, was “once the basic cable network to be at, absolutely,” a Hollywood insider recently told Joy Press. “But if you look at them now,” that’s not the case. “A lot of agents will take projects out in tiers. Tier one is your streamers and your premium cable networks…. AMC is no longer in that tier. I wouldn’t even say they’re in the second tier a lot of the time.” The problem only seems likely to get worse with the impending end of Better Call Saul and The Walking Dead. So, how does the former industry darling plan to weather the storm? With a little bit of elbow grease—and, as execs tell Joy, a bunch of shows about vampires.
