All About the PandEmmys
Any other year, celebrities would have spent Sunday streaming into the Microsoft Theater for the Primetime Emmy Awards. But 2020, of course, is no ordinary year. This year’s virtual ceremony wound up being a decidedly unusual affair—though not an unsuccessful one. “If you’ve got to have the Emmys during a global pandemic,” writes Sonia Saraiya, “you could do a lot worse than ABC’s slightly unhinged, mostly virtual telecast on Sunday night.”
Elsewhere in post-Emmys land, Joanna Robinson surveys the night’s big winners, particularly Succession, through a Trumpian lens, and declares Damon Lindelof’s Watchmenwins redemption for the Lost years; Yohana Desta takes us inside the Canadian shindig where the Schitt’s Creek cast celebrated their historic Emmy wins; and Christopher Rosenpoints out a quirk viewers may have missed: what happened Sunday night when 2020’s Emmy nominees lost.
