The new U.S. Secretary of State vowed to bring back the “swagger” to the agency at the forefront of American diplomacy. President Trump made his first visit to the State Department for Mike Pompeo’s swearing-in ceremony. Pompeo took selfies with several State employees, vowing to reach out to as many staff members as he could.
ON THIS DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY 
On May 2, 1863, Confederate troops won an unlikely victory during the Battle of Chancellorsville in the American Civil War, despite being outnumbered 2-1, by out-maneuvering their Union foes. The victory came at a huge cost though, as Confederate General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson was accidentally wounded by fire from his own soldiers. Jackson’s arm was amputated, and he died days later from pneumonia.
Aun Pheap, a veteran Cambodian journalist, was granted refugee status by the United Nations and has fled to the United States. Aun Pheap and other reporters were sued for “incitement with bad intention.” He told VOA Khmer the charges were simply “an excuse to mistreat us,” and he suspects the lawsuit was pushed by “higher people.” The Cambodian government has been widely criticized for its recent media crackdown .
That list of questions the New York Times said special counsel Robert Mueller plans to ask President Trump as part of the Russian interference investigation might not be everything Mueller would like to learn from the president. The lawyers VOA talked to said that, while the list reflects the general line of questioning the special counsel’s investigation is believed to be focused on, they expect Mueller’s actual questions would be much more focused and pointed.
