ON THIS DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY | |
|
On May 2, 1863, Confederate troops won an unlikely victory during the Battle of Chancellorsville in the American Civil War, despite being outnumbered 2-1, by out-maneuvering their Union foes. The victory came at a huge cost though, as Confederate General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson was accidentally wounded by fire from his own soldiers. Jackson’s arm was amputated, and he died days later from pneumonia. |
