Being Amy Winehouse |
Marisa Abela knows there was something special about Amy Winehouse. “She affected so many people so deeply,” she recently told Valentina Valentini. “So, in a very real sense, I felt her often.” Abela tapped into that energy while making Back to Black, a biopic that focuses not on the well-documented tragedy of Winehouse’s life, but its triumphs. Abela was attracted to Matt Greenhalgh’s script and director Sam Taylor-Johnson’s vision because of the “life and joy and power and effervescence” that they held. “I want to tell a story that reminds me that she was a fucking riot, you know?” |
