ESSENTIAL INDUSTRY AND AWARDS NEWS

OCTOBER 20, 2021

The Golden Globes Are…Back?

Maybe! Kind of! Last week, as Rebecca Ford writes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced that it would move forward with handing out Golden Globe awards for the films and TV shows of 2021—even though a powerful coalition of P.R. representatives and studios have said they would not work with the group until significant changes were made, and NBC also announced it would not broadcast the 2022 awards. Ford canvased a collection of industry insiders for responses to the news. The general gist? As one top publicist said, “It seems very messy.”

Elsewhere in HWD, Maureen Ryan explains why today’s planned Netflix walkout matters; Julie Miller looks back at some of the most heinous jokes comedians lobbed at Monica Lewinsky at the height of the Clinton affair; David Canfieldtakes a look at the female directors flipping the script this awards season; and Anthony Breznican has a first look at the upcoming Chloë Grace Moretz film Mother/Android.
