ON THIS DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY | |
|
On July 31, 1975, American labor leader Jimmy Hoffa vanishes in Detroit, Michigan. Most assume Hoffa is the victim of a Mafia hit. Hoffa, an ardent advocate for workers, also associates with high-ranking mobsters. His disappearance remains shrouded in mystery. (In this Sept. 30, 1957 file photo, Jimmy Hoffa waves to delegates at the opening of the Teamsters Union convention at Miami Beach, Florida.) |
