The autobiography of Pete Townshend - guitarist and songwriter with The Who - is published this week.
In addition to tales of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll, it recounts the events of 2003 that saw Townshend arrested after admitting that he had entered his credit card details to a child pornography website.
There was no evidence to suggest that he had actually downloaded child pornography. Townshend said at the time that he was researching the subject, believing that he himself had been abused as a child.
Speaking to the Today programme's John Wilson, Townshend said: "I did nothing wrong. I got a letter from a policeman three or four days ago that said they knew I wasn't a paedophile or a child molester."
"I do wish that I had had the strength and the courage to go to court but I didn't. It would have destroyed me I think."
