Ο Αύγουστος Κορτώ έρχεται

 στο Public

Tο Public και οι εκδόσεις Πατάκη σας προσκαλούν σε δύο συναντήσεις με τον Αύγουστο Κορτώ με αφορμή το νέο του βιβλίο «Το μυστικό του Λεονάρντο».

Η πρώτη συνάντηση θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Παρασκευή 08 Μαίου, στις 20:30, στo Public Café Συντάγματος, ενώ η δεύτερη θα γίνει την Παρασκευή 10 Μαίου, στις 19:00, στo Public Τσιμισκή.

“Πέθανα πρώτη φορά στα πέντε μου χρόνια…”
Στη δύση του βίου του, φιλοξενούμενος του Φραγκίσκου Α’ της Γαλλίας, ο Λεονάρντο ντα Βίντσι αποφασίζει ν’ αφηγηθεί τη ζωή του: από την αθωότητα και την οδύνη των παιδικών του χρόνων μέχρι την πρώτη του επαφή με την τέχνη της εικόνας, τη μαθητεία του στο ατελιέ του Βερόκιο, και την πολυτάραχη νιότη του, με τους ανομολόγητους έρωτες και τη ραγδαία του ανέλιξη στην κορυφή του καλλιτεχνικού ιερατείου της Αναγέννησης.

Όμως το αόρατο νήμα που ξετυλίγει τον μίτο της αφήγησης είναι η λαχτάρα του ηλικιωμένου Λεονάρντο να ομολογήσει το πιο σκοτεινό του μυστικό, που του βαραίνει χρόνια την ψυχή: ένα έγκλημα που έμεινε ατιμώρητο, και στο οποίο χρωστά το πιο διάσημο έργο του – έναν πίνακα που δεν λέει να αποχωριστεί, καθώς περιέχει ό,τι πιο ακριβό κουβαλά στην καρδιά του.
Ιστορία μυστηρίου κρυμμένη μες στο αξεδιάλυτο μυστήριο της Ιστορίας, Το μυστικό του Λεονάρντο είναι πάνω απ’ όλα ένας ύμνος στην ανθρώπινη δημιουργία: στην ψυχή και το σώμα που επιμένουν να γεννούν ακόμα κι υπό τη βαριά σκιά του θανάτου.

Το Public και οι εκδόσεις Διόπτρα σας προσκαλούν στην παρουσίαση του νέου βιβλίου της Έλενας Ακρίτα, «Τα τάπερ της Αλίκης», που θα γίνει στο Public Τσιμισκή, την Παρασκευή 31 Μαΐου, στις 19.00.

Mια αθηναϊκή τοιχογραφία της εικοσαετίας 1980-2000. Τρεις γενιές γυναικών ζουν, ονειρεύονται και διεκδικούν. Είναι όσα ζήσαμε κι αγαπήσαμε σε μια Αθήνα που δεν μένει πια εδώ.

Τα τάπερ της Αλίκης είναι μια αθηναϊκή τοιχογραφία της εικοσαετίας 1980-2000. Τρεις γενιές γυναικών ζουν, ονειρεύονται και διεκδικούν: Η Κοραλία, είκοσι χρόνια καθαρίστρια στη ΦΙΝΟΣ ΦΙΛΜ. Η κόρη της Ελένη, πωλήτρια στο ΜΙΝΙΟΝ, που κάνει κι επιδείξεις τάπερ σε σπίτια κυριών. Και το «εξώγαμο» κοριτσάκι της, η Αλικούλα, που πήρε το όνομα της νονάς της Αλίκης Βουγιουκλάκη. Η μικρή μέσα στα πολύχρωμα τάπερ της μαμάς κρύβει παιχνίδια, πασχαλίτσες για τα μαλλιά, στρασάκια, Μπάρμπι, επιθυμίες, ελπίδες κι όνειρα. Όταν η Αλίκη μεγαλώνει, κλείνει ερμητικά μέσα στα τάπερ όλα όσα αισθάνεται.

Αγάπη, οργή, πόνο, έρωτα, γέλιο και κλάμα. Μέχρι που η ζωή της θα απαιτήσει να ανοίξει τα αεροστεγή καπάκια και ν’ αφήσει τα συναισθήματά της ελεύθερα. Τα τάπερ της Αλίκης είναι ένα γκράφιτι στους τοίχους των πολυκατοικιών της Κυψέλης, των μπορντέλων της Φυλής, των θεατρικών σκηνών, των παλιών καταστημάτων και των ρετιρέ με τις στρωμένες τσόχες για κουμκάν. Είναι όσα ζήσαμε κι αγαπήσαμε σε μια Αθήνα που δεν μένει πια εδώ.

Σε λειτουργία η Διπλή γραμμή με ηλεκτροκίνηση στο Αθήνα-Θεσσαλονίκη

Η ΕΡΓΟΣΕ έδωσε επίσημα στην κυκλοφορία, την περασμένη εβδομάδα, τη διπλή γραμμή από το Λιανοκλάδι μέχρι τον Δομοκό και με την ηλεκτροκίνηση να είναι πλέον σε λειτουργία. 

Η διπλή γραμμή σε όλο το μήκος κάνει παρελθόν τις βραδυπορίες και αναμονές στα τμήματα που υπήρχε μονή γραμμή και η χωρητικότητα αυξάνεται γεωμετρικά.

Η δρομολόγηση των express τρένων εκτιμάται ότι θα γίνει κάπου μέσα στον Μάιο αλλά ακόμα και τα άλλα δρομολόγια θα εκτελούνται σε πολύ καλούς χρόνους, περίπου σε 4 ώρες και 20 λεπτά.

Αυτό που έχει μεγάλη σημασία αυτή τη στιγμή είναι να ξεκινήσει το αμιγώς ηλεκτροκινούμενο δρομολόγιο στο Αθήνα-Θεσσαλονίκη, για πρώτη φορά στα ελληνικά σιδηροδρομικά χρονικά που αποτελεί από μόνο του ένα τεράστιο άλμα και από εκεί και έπειτα να αρχίζουν να κλείνουν μία-μία οι εκκρεμότητες που θα μας οδηγήσουν στην επόμενη μέρα του σύγχρονου σιδηρόδρομου για τη χώρα

Rock Takes A Stand Against Racism

1978

The Clash are among the acts at a "Rock Against Racism" concert, playing to over 50,000 in London's Victoria Park to combat the National Front, a neo-Nazi group in the UK whose slogan is "Keep Britain White."

The National Front represents the extreme right wing, and is growing in strength as the United Kingdom suffers a lengthy economic downturn. Campaigning under the slogan "Keep Britain White," the party is looking to put up 500 candidates at the imminent local elections, promising to deport black and minority ethnic people from the country if they win power.

The group is emboldened by Eric Clapton, who at a show in Birmingham in 1976 spoke out in support of controversial UK Member of Parliament Enoch Powell, who in 1968 claimed that immigration would lead to "Rivers of blood" in the streets. In a lengthy rant, Clapton stated, "We should send them all back" before leading the crowd in a chant of the National Front slogan "Keep Britain White."

Although Clapton later claims he was joking, he maintains his support for Powell, describing him as "outrageously brave." This event, coupled with incidents such as the wearing of swastikas by Siouxsie Sioux and David Bowie being photographed apparently making a Nazi salute in Victoria Station on his return from East Germany, horrifies the left wing of the punk scene, which responds with Rock Against Racism, launched by rock photographer Red Saunders and prominent socialist Roger Huddle. The movement is backed by a series of grass-roots shows across the country, punctuated by "Carnivals" of which this is so far the biggest.

The show itself is plagued with technical problems: Pink Floyd had offered the loan of their sound rig for the day, but as they could not supply a crew to operate it, a public address system is hired in at great cost. Accordingly, much of what is said and sung is not heard, but the crowd is in great spirits and cheer on stars including Billy Idol's Generation X and the headline act the Tom Robinson Band.

Although it is featured on the evening's television news bulletins, the influential national press fails to cover the event in print. Regardless, the performance is deemed a success when the National Front fail to make any impact in the following week's elections.

Rock Against Racism is formally disbanded in 1981, before being revived in 2002 under the banner "Love Music, Hate Racism."
