«Εφυγε» ο Νέστορας Μάτσας
Eφυγε, χτες, ο 82χρονος δημοσιογράφος, συγγραφέας Νέστορας Μάτσας. Γεννημένος στην Αθήνα (1930), σπούδασε, με γαλλική υποτροφία, στο Παρίσι δημοσιογραφία, θέατρο και κινηματογράφο. Το 1949 άρχισε να δουλεύει στην εφημερίδα «Εθνικός Κήρυξ» ως κριτικός κινηματογράφου. Εργάστηκε, επίσης, στις εφημερίδες «Μεσημβρινή», «Βραδυνή», «Εστία», στα περιοδικά «Επίκαιρα» και «Νέα Εστία», στο ΕΙΡΤ και την ΥΕΝΕΔ. Παράλληλα ασχολήθηκε με τη λογοτεχνία. Εγραψε 35 βιβλία (πολλά έχουν μεταφραστεί σε πολλές γλώσσες, και στα κινεζικά), αρκετά από τα οποία έλαβαν διακρίσεις. Πρώτος καθιέρωσε τα εθνογραφικά ντοκιμαντέρ και πρώτος εισήγαγε στην ελληνική τηλεόραση τα λαογραφικά και εθνογραφικά προγράμματα.
Δημιούργησε και παρουσίασε περισσότερες από 1.000 τηλεοπτικές εκπομπές. Γύρισε 150 εθνογραφικά ντοκιμαντέρ (πολλά κέρδισαν διεθνή βραβεία και διακρίσεις). Για το πλούσιο έργο του διακρίθηκε με βραβεία: Ακαδημίας Αθηνών, Πόλεως των Αθηνών, Κρατικό Βραβείο Μυθιστορηματικής Βιογραφίας, Επαινος «Χανς Κρίστιαν Αντερσεν», Δημοσιογραφικό Βραβείο Ιδρύματος Μπότση κ.ά.
Ο Ν. Μάτσας θα ταφεί αύριο (11 π.μ.) στο νεκροταφείο Καισαριανής. Παράκληση της οικογένειας αντί στεφάνων να δοθούν χρήματα στα «Παιδικά Χωριά SOS».
tablet στα 199 δολάρια
To πρώτο tablet PC με τη δική της «σφραγίδα» παρουσίασε η Google χθες, πρώτη ημέρα του ετήσιου συνεδρίου I/O που πραγματοποιεί για τους προγραμματιστές. Ο λόγος για το Nexus 7, έναν «υπολογιστής-ταμπλέτα» που κατασκεύασε για λογαριασμό του ιντερνετικού κολοσσού η Asus και το οποίο έχει αρκετά ελκυστικά τεχνικά χαρακτηριστικά, λεπτό ντιζάιν και θα διατεθεί με την πιο «φρέσκια» έκδοση του λειτουργικού Android, το Jelly Bean (Android 4.1), που ανακοίνωσε επίσης χθες η Google. Αυτό όμως που είναι ακόμη πιο ελκυστικό είναι η τιμή του, η οποία θα ξεκινά από τα 199 δολάρια.
Με αυτή την τιμή, η Google επιδιώκει να αυξήσει τη δημοφιλία των tablet PC με λειτουργικό Android, κάνοντας όμως στροφή 180 μοιρών σε σχέση με την τακτική που ακολουθούσε έως τώρα στην προσπάθειά της ανταγωνισθεί την Apple και τα iPad. Έτσι, μέχρι σήμερα φαινόταν να δίνει έμφαση σε συσκευές που ακολουθούσαν τα πρότυπα των συσκευών της Apple, με παρόμοια χαρακτηριστικά και τιμή. Είναι χαρακτηριστικό ότι στο περσινό συνέδριο μοίρασε στους συμμετέχοντες το Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, μία συσκευή 10,1 ιντσών που θύμιζε αρκετά και κόστιζε στο εμπόριο όσο περίπου και το iPad.
Φέτος, αντίθετα, όχι μόνο επέλεξε να εμπλακεί και η ίδια στη σχεδίαση του Nexus 7, αλλά και πρόκρινε ως «ναυαρχίδα» των μοντέλων Android μία σαφώς πιο οικονομική συσκευή, και μάλιστα με μέγεθος 7 ίντσες – δηλαδή κατάλληλη για τους χρήστες που θέλουν μία ταμπλέτα για να καταναλώνουν και όχι για να παράγουν περιεχόμενο. Κατά συνέπεια, ακολούθησε τη συνταγή της Amazon και του 7΄΄ Kindle Fire, το οποίο πωλείται στην Αμερική 199 δολάρια και θεωρείται εξαιρετικά επιτυχημένο – σύμφωνα με την εταιρεία αναλύσεων Comscore, το Kindle Fire αντιστοιχεί στο 54% των πωλήσεων tablet PC με Android στις ΗΠΑ.
Επομένως, όπως το Kindle Fire είναι «κομμένο και ραμμένο» στα μέτρα του ιντερνετικού καταστήματος της Amazon, το Nexus 7 έχει σχεδιαστεί με γνώμονα την καλύτερη δυνατή χρήση του Google Play Store, για την προμήθεια ταινιών, εφαρμογών και μουσικής. Ακόμη πάντως και στις χώρες όπου το Google Play Store δεν διαθέτει ταινίες ή μουσικά άλμπουμ, όπως στην Ελλάδα, το tablet PC παραμένει μία εξαιρετικά ικανοποιητική πρόταση, με κριτήριο τις τεχνικές προδιαγραφές που έχει για την τιμή του.
Έτσι, η συσκευή διαθέτει τετραπύρηνο επεξεργαστή Tegra 3, μνήμη RAM 1 GB, κάμερα για βιντεοκλήσεις, οθόνη με πάνελ τύπου IPS, που εξασφαλίζει γωνίες θέασης έως και 178 μοίρες, όπως και μπαταρία με αυτονομία έως 9 ώρες. Αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι δεν έχει μειονεκτήματα, με κυριότερα την απουσία θύρας για κάρτες microSD και το γεγονός ότι δεν συνδέεται σε δίκτυα 3G. Σε αντιστάθμισμα, όμως, είναι το πρώτο μοντέλο που θα συνοδεύεται από το νέο, ακόμη πιο βελτιωμένο για «έξυπνες» συσκευές, λειτουργικό Android Jelly Bean.
Το tablet ζυγίζει 340 γραμμάρια, έχει πάχος 10, 45 χιλιοστά και θα ξεκινήσει να διατίθεται στα μέσα Ιουλίου, μέσα από το Google Play Store, αρχικά για τις ΗΠΑ, τη Βρετανία, τον Καναδά και την Αυστραλία. Απομένει να δούμε πότε, και με ποιο τρόπο, θα κυκλοφορήσει και στην Ελλάδα.

MOTOWN MUSICAL SET FOR BROADWAY
A musical based on the life of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy is set to open on Broadway next year.
Producers said Motown the Musical would feature songs made famous by artists who found fame with the label including Stevie Wonder and the Jackson Five.
Gordy will write and co-produce the show, which will open next spring.
The 82-year-old mogul said the production was "a challenging and exciting opportunity to tell my story and share the magic of Motown".
"I can't wait to feel that same Motown spirit come alive on stage every night," he added.
Producers described the show as "a gripping story about the proteges and stars of a uniquely talented musical family who, under Gordy's guidance, began as the Sound of Young America and went on to become some of the greatest superstars of all time".
Other songs to feature in the musical include those made famous by Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and Marvin Gaye.
Producer Doug Morris said: "This is an amazing opportunity for everyone to experience the Motown phenomenon through the eyes of the man who lived it."
Casting for the show has yet to be announced.

Rudy Vallee croons his way through a zany musical about an amateur musician in search of work who impersonates a big band leader. With Sally Blaine, Marie Dressler.
Fun (and funny) musical comedy. A very early talkie - the sound is quite good, though the mixing is rather poor, since there were probably very few microphones in use, and microphones of that era were not very sensitive. Good example of early sound in film. Some of the acting (especially Vallee's) is atrocious, unintentionally adding to the comedy. But Marie Dressler is a scream, as always! Good storyline made all the more interesting by a glimpse of a period long gone (nearly 80 years ago), its historical significance and Rudy Vallee's music.

Rudy Vallee croons his way through a zany musical about an amateur musician in search of work who impersonates a big band leader. With Sally Blaine, Marie Dressler.
Fun (and funny) musical comedy. A very early talkie - the sound is quite good, though the mixing is rather poor, since there were probably very few microphones in use, and microphones of that era were not very sensitive. Good example of early sound in film. Some of the acting (especially Vallee's) is atrocious, unintentionally adding to the comedy. But Marie Dressler is a scream, as always! Good storyline made all the more interesting by a glimpse of a period long gone (nearly 80 years ago), its historical significance and Rudy Vallee's music.

Nora Ephron, When Harry Met Sally screenwriter, dies
Hollywood screenwriter and director Nora Ephron, who penned such films as When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle, has died at the age of 71.
Alfred P Knopf, Ephron's publisher, confirmed her death on Tuesday night in a statement.
Her son told the New York Times she died in Manhattan of complications relating to acute myeloid leukaemia.
The writer grew up in California, and started her career reporting for the New York Post.
"She brought an awful lot of people a tremendous amount of joy," her publisher said in a statement. "She will be sorely missed."
Her 15 film credits also include You've Got Mail, Silkwood and Julie and Julia, which was her final film, in 2009.
She was nominated for an Oscar three times, but never won the award.
Ephron was born on 19 May 1941 in New York, to a Broadway playwright and a Hollywood screenwriter.
She put her mother's advice - "take notes, everything is copy" - to good effect, turning wry personal observations on relationships into hugely successful romantic comedies.
Ephron wrote essays for major US magazines from the late 1960s, as well as several non-fiction books, including two recent memoirs.
She was married three times, once to Carl Bernstein, the Washington Post reporter who helped uncover the Watergate scandal.
The marriage ended publicly when he began an affair with the wife of the then-British ambassador, Margaret Jay, who was also the daughter of former British Prime Minister James Callaghan.
Ephron's divorce from Bernstein resulted in a novel, Heartburn, which she turned into a movie starring Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson.
Her first marriage to writer Dan Greenburg ended in 1976.
Ephron's third marriage to Nicholas Pileggi, who wrote the screenplays for the Martin Scorsese films Goodfellas and Casino, lasted more than 20 years.
Rumours of her death circulated on Tuesday evening after her friend, celebrity columnist Liz Smith, published an online memorial.
Smith said the writer's son had informed her a funeral had been scheduled for his mother.
Ephron is survived by her husband and two sons.
She was the oldest of four sisters, all of whom became writers.

«Εφυγε» από τη ζωή ο 57χρονος θεατρικός σκηνοθέτης Δημήτρης Εξαρχος, μοναχογιός του ηθοποιού Θόδωρου Εξαρχου. Ο τρομερά κακότυχος σκηνοθέτης πέρασε τα τελευταία 10 χρόνια της ζωής του στο Ασυλο Ανιάτων, στην Κυψέλη, ύστερα από ένα μοιραίο τροχαίο το Μάρτη του 1999 (μετά από πρόβα έργου που θα ανέβαζε στο ΔΗΠΕΘΕ Κρήτης, νύχτα, καθώς βάδιζε, τον χτύπησε διερχόμενος μοτοσικλετιστής). Εξαιτίας βαριάς κρανιοεγκεφαλικής βλάβης παρέλυσαν τα άκρα του και το κέντρο ομιλίας. Μετά από πολλαπλές εγχειρήσεις και μακρόχρονη νοσηλεία στο ΚΑΤ, λόγω της ανεπίστρεπτης βλάβης που υπέστη, του θανάτου της μητέρας του, δημοσιογράφου Μπίτσας Εξάρχου και εμφράγματος του πατέρα του, μόνη «λύση» ήταν το άσυλο.
Ο Δημήτρης Εξαρχος, με παρουσία στο Εθνικό Θέατρο και σε δημοτικά - περιφερειακά θέατρα, σπούδασε θέατρο στην Αγγλία. Εργαζόταν στην Ελλάδα από τη δεκαετία του 1980. Στο Εθνικό Θέατρο είχε σκηνοθετήσει το «Ασυλο» του Ντέιβιντ Στόρεϊ και τους «Βρικόλακες» του Ερρίκου Ιψεν. Στο ΔΗΠΕΘΕ Κρήτης η παράστασή του «Ερωφίλη» είχε προκαλέσει ιδιαίτερη αίσθηση.
Η κηδεία του θα γίνει από το νεκροταφείο Βύρωνα, σήμερα, στις 11 πμ. Η οικογένειά του παρακαλεί τους ενδιαφερόμενους αντί στεφάνων να διαθέσουν τα χρήματα στο Ασυλο Ανιάτων.

German daily sent to all 41 million households
Germany's best-selling newspaper was given away free to almost all of the country's 41 million households on Saturday in a controversial celebration of the daily's 60th anniversary that set a world record for largest circulation.
Bild newspaper - a tabloid-style daily both feared and respected for its massive influence in Germany but also known for its hard-hitting campaigns and photos of nude women - sent 41 million copies to all but 200,000 postal addresses of people who expressly requested not to receive Saturday's newspaper. "Free Bild for everyone!" wrote the daily in two-inch high letters on page one above an open letter from editor in chief Kai Dieckmann.
Bild said Guinness World Records in Germany has certified the print run as "the largest circulation for the free special edition of a newspaper". Bild, which likes to pride itself for having its finger on the pulse of what makes ordinary Germans tick, normally costs 70 cents per issue. Critics of the newspaper organised a boycott of the free delivery and about 200,000 people filled out forms requested they not receive the Saturday edition. Bild said that represented 0.6 percent of German households.
According to media reports, Bild had a daily circulation in the 1980s of 5 million before falling to about 3 million now.

Εμπνευστής αυτής της πρωτοβουλίας είναι ένας Έλληνας δημοσιογράφος από τη Θεσσαλονίκη, ο οποίος οραματίζεται να αναδείξει όλα εκείνα που ενώνουν τους Έλληνες με τους Ολλανδούς και να παραμερίσει όσα τους χωρίζουν.
«Επιμελούμαι και παρουσιάζω την εκπομπή, σε εθελοντική βάση, σε έναν σταθμό που δεν κυνηγάει το κέρδος ή τις ακροαματικότητες. Ήθελα έναν τίτλο για την εκπομπή που να αναγνωρίζεται, ταυτόχρονα, από τους Έλληνες και από τους Ολλανδούς. Έναν τίτλο που να φέρνει πιο κοντά τις δύο κοινότητες, με στοιχεία και από τις δύο κουλτούρες» επισημαίνει από το Άμστερνταμ, ο 35χρονος Νίκος Κουλούσιος, ο οποίος ζει μόνιμα στην Ολλανδία από το 1999.
